Some of the gifts you gave last Christmas
Laura* could give her young children safety and something from Santa
When Laura fled her abusive partner with her two kids, they arrived at a UnitingCare shelter on Christmas Day with only the clothes on their backs.
Your donations helped keep the family safe and meant there were funds to provide them with pyjamas, toiletries, clothing, and food, along with presents for the kids.
Gary* didn’t have to go hungry to feed his grandkids
Just before Christmas, Gary’s son went to prison, leaving Gary to care for his traumatised grandkids. Gary didn’t know how he would even feed them.
Because of your support, Gary was able to put food on the table and give the kids presents to open on Christmas Day. He said it was the biggest gift anyone could have given them.
Danica* and Mo* could keep their car and dress their newborn
Danica and Mo were doing well until pregnancy complications forced Danica to leave her job. Suddenly, they were struggling and anxious about the future.
Thanks to your donations, UnitingCare was able to provide them with vouchers that helped them kit out their nursery and buy basic baby clothes, giving them some breathing room until the baby arrived.
*These situations are very real but to protect the confidentiality of families, we can’t share real names or photos.
It won’t feel like Christmas this year for many Queenslanders who are scraping by
The cost of living is pushing more families to the edge. Parents are skipping meals so their kids can eat. Grandparents are stretching pensions to raise little ones. People are delaying doctors’ visits just to keep a roof overhead.
They’re doing their best. They’re holding on with strength and grit. But this Christmas, the weight of those choices is heavier than ever.
Your gift to the UnitingCare Christmas Appeal will lighten the load. It can mean food on the table, a bill paid, a present under the tree — the little things that bring relief, connection and joy to the season.
Looking for a way to bring your group or workplace together?
From personal gifts to help with bills, your Christmas donations and fundraising help lighten the load for families who are already doing their best.
We know many community groups and businesses also love to collect physical gifts that make the season feel special. To make sure these gifts reach the right families, we ask that you register first so we can coordinate together.
Register today to start fundraising and/or collecting gifts — and help make Christmas feel lighter and brighter for Queensland families.
